Participants

The WDO is set up as an independent non-profit association driven by the spirit of the orchestra members. The participants cover their own travel expenses, while local costs are kept as low as possible.

Founded in 2008, the orchestra has grown from 60 participants from 12 countries in the first session to more than 2,000 doctors from 60 countries in 2024. They are medical professionals and, at the same time, enthusiastic and active musicians. Many have had professional music training and experience, others are excellent amateur musicians who engage in regular musical activity.

About 100 musicians participate in each concert session, depending on their availability and on the instruments needed for the repertoire.
